How to fill holes in walls properly
Filling a hole takes 5 minutes — making it invisible takes a bit more care. Here's how decorators do it.
1. Pick the right filler
Use a flexible interior filler for hairline cracks, a powdered filler for deep holes (it shrinks less), and a one-coat lightweight filler for fast jobs.
2. Apply in thin layers
Push filler in firmly, scrape flush, then add a second skim slightly proud once dry. Big builds in one go always crack.
3. Sand and prime
Sand with 120 grit then 240, dust off, and spot-prime before painting. Without primer the patch will flash through your paint.
